Welcome to Donna's Bike Aournd the Bay page
On October 15-16, 2016, some friends and I will be riding around Galveston Bay in the 10th annual Bike Around the Bay cycling event. This will be my fourth year to enjoy riding around the bay. It’s a fun two day ride that allows me to see all sides of the bay some which I had never seen before I started doing this ride. While the east side is quite and very pretty with greenspaces, the west side is where you’ll find the “city” of refineries and the beauty of bay living. Each side is amazing in its own way.
I am riding to support the largest and most productive bay in Texas. Galveston Bay provides amazing recreational and tourism opportunities like boating, fishing and bird watching while also supporting an important commercial fishing industry that puts Galveston Bay shrimp, oysters and blue crab on our dinner plates. It also serves as the home for a large amount of industrial activity including shipping and refining that drives our local economy.
Did you know that half the population of Texas lives within the Galveston Bay watershed? You can help make a difference in preserving and protecting the Bay right in our own backyards by making a tax-deductible donation to my ride. Your contribution will support the Galveston Bay Foundation which works with all Bay users to preserve the beauty, tranquility, and health of Galveston Bay. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps create a better Bay!
